Recognition of professional qualifications of nationals of Member States acquired in the other Member State

 

Recognition of Professional Qualifications of Nationals of European Union Member States, European Economic Area States and Swiss Confederation Acquired in the other Member State in order to Practice Regulated Healthcare Professions in the Republic of Lithuania

 

Recognition of professional qualifications obtained in a Member State shall apply if:

 

1. you are a citizen of the European Union, the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation (hereinafter referred to as a Member State) who obtained your professional qualification in another Member State and wish to work in the Republic of Lithuania in accordance with your regulated profession in the Republic of Lithuania;

 

2. you are a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania who has obtained your professional qualification in another Member State and you want to work in the Republic of Lithuania according to your profession, which is a regulated profession in the Republic of Lithuania;

 

3. you are a third-country national enjoying the freedom of movement in Member States conferred to you by the European Union legislation and you obtained your professional qualification in another Member State and wish to work in the Republic of Lithuania in accordance with your regulated profession in the Republic of Lithuania.

 

 

Legal act regulating the recognition of professional qualifications:

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION AND DOCUMENTS

The applicant or his/ her authorized representative shall submit to Agency by electronic means of communication, personally or by post (address: A.Juozapavičiaus g. 9, LT-09311, Vilnius) an application in the prescribed form and the specified documents or/and documents must be submitted with the translations into Lithuanian.

Agency shall make the final reasoned decision on the recognition of professional qualification of healthcare specialist no later than within 3 months from the date of receipt of all submitted documents. 

Agency shall notify the applicant of its decision in writing. 

The service is provided free of charge.

 

In order to be employed as a healthcare specialist in the Republic of Lithuania, persons are required to have official language proficiency (Lithuanian) category 2.

 

Procedure and required documents

 

If profession in which you intend to be engaged in Lithuania is regulated and its training requirements are not harmonised with the EU (EU minimum training requirements are set for: doctors, general practice nurses, midwifes, dental practitioners), your professional qualification will be recognised in accordance with the General system of recognition of professional qualification.

Professional qualifications will be recognised in accordance with the General system of recognition of professional qualification as following: Biomedical technologist, Dental hygienist, Dental technician, Dietist, Dental nurse, Advanced practice nurse, Occupational therapist, Physiotherapist, Masseur, Advanced practice pharmacist, Medical biologist, Medical geneticist, Medical psychologist, Optometrist, Paramedic, Radiology technologist, Emergency paramedic

According to the General system of recognition of professional qualification, your training will be compared with the with the  relevant  specialist's trainig in Republic of Lithuania  If  certain defects, essentially different subjects discovered,  you may be requested to complete a professional eligibility measure (compensatory measure).

 

The applicant or his/ her authorized person shall submit Agency a filled in the application form and the copies of the documents.
