Recognition of professional qualifications of third country nationals (education in third country)

 

Procedure of the recognition of professional qualifications of third country nationals in order to practice regulated professions of a healthcare specialists in the Republic of Lithuania

 

If you are a third-country national who has obtained your professional qualification in a third country and you wish to work in the Republic of Lithuania practicing the profession, which is a regulated profession in the Republic of Lithuania.

If you are a national of a Member State who has obtained your professional qualification in a third country and you wish to work in the Republic of Lithuania practicing the profession, which is a regulated profession in the Republic of Lithuania.

Legal act regulating the recognition of professional qualifications:

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION AND DOCUMENTS

 

The applicant or his/ her authorized representative shall submit to Agency personally or by post (address: A.Juozapavičiaus g. 9, LT-09311, Vilnius) an application in the prescribed form and the copies of specified documents or/and documents must be submitted with the translations into Lithuanian.

Agency shall make the final reasoned decision on the recognition of professional qualification of healthcare specialist no later than within 3 months from the date of receipt of all submitted documents. 

Agency shall notify the applicant of its decision in writing (or if a person so requests, he/she may pick up the decision in person).

 

The service is provided free of charge.

 

In order to be employed as a healthcare specialist in the Republic of Lithuania, persons are required to have official language proficiency (Lithuanian) category 2.

 

Procedure and required documents

 

Your professional qualification will be recognised in accordance with the General system of recognition of professional qualification (hereafter General system). According to the General system, your training subjects will be compared with the requirements set in the Republic of Lithuania for respective professional training. Agency being a competent authority for healthcare professions assigned under of supervision of the Ministry of Health the Republic of Lithuania having assessed the contents and discovered certain defects, essentially different subjects, can request you to complete a professional eligibility measure (compensatory measure).

 

 

The applicant or his/ her authorized person shall submit Agency a filled in the application form and the copies of the documents (if documents have been drafted in another than the official language of Lithuania, they shall be accompanied by their translations into Lithuanian; translations shall be certified by a signature of the document translator, and/or a stamp of the translations bureau) for the assessment and recognition of the acquired professional qualification of healthcare specialist.

 

Application form

The following documents shall be submitted:

  1. a document proving the citizenship of the person;
  2. a document attesting the change of the name and / or surname (if it was changed);
  3. an evidences of formal qualifications;
  4. a document with the training subjects and with the duration of each subject, as the case may be study credits (if the training can be expressed in lerning or study credits) or the number of hours (if the training can be expressed in hours);
  5. a certificate of the assessment of higher education obtained abroad and / or academic recognition of diplomas issued by Center of Quality Assessment in Higher Education in Lithuania;
  6. a document certifying the applicant’s professional experience (if any)
  7. certificates about professional development (if any);
  8. a power of attorney, if an application is submitted by an authorized person;

Notes: Documents other than those referred to in points 1 and 5 must must be accompanied by the translation into Lithuanian. Translations must be certified by a translator’s signature and/or a stamp of a translation agency.
